It's no secret that we only sew from certified cotton. And what is cotton?
Cotton was first cultivated and used about 7,000 years ago. The most valuable and high-quality cotton fibers: the thinnest, longest and smoothest, which are very few in number (3–4%), are grown in Egypt. Cotton is a plant (cellulosic) fiber obtained from the fiber surrounding the seeds of the cotton plant. After the plant has bloomed, the fiber forms around the seeds, of which there are about 30 in one flower, and from 2,000 to 7,000 cotton fiber hairs protrude from each seed. Cotton is harvested by hand (e.g., certified organic cotton) or mechanized, and the collected material is dried in warm air.
Thanks to the thinness and softness of the fiber, the fabric is pleasant to the touch and does not irritate the skin, suitable for people with sensitive skin or allergies. The thin hairs of cotton fiber are hollow, so cotton has good thermal properties, and the fabric is also breathable, so the body sweats less. Cotton can accumulate up to 20 percent. moisture from the environment and remain dry (without the feeling of dampness). The uneven surface of the hollow hairs absorbs the dye pigment well, so cotton retains its color well even after many washes.
Cotton is one of the crops most heavily fertilized and sprayed with pesticides and insecticides, which pollute water and soil, and their residues can also be found in cotton clothing. Since 1990, Egypt has been growing organic cotton, i.e., no pesticides are used to grow, process, and manufacture the fibers of products. Currently, special labeling systems for organic or environmentally "friendlier" products are used worldwide, which help consumers identify products that are least harmful to nature and health. One of them is the OEKO TEX standard 100. The PariPari brand pays special attention to the quality of fabrics and dyes used, so all our products are sewn only from OEKO TEX standard 100 certified cotton.
